3 Must Have Features Of A Good Advertisement

01

What’s one thing that is everywhere?
At your fingertips, ready to share?
Trust me, it’s always there,
Sometimes absurd, other times fair.
But what’s in there?
About it, why do we care?
It’s an Advertisement at which we stare!
Now good or bad, let’s compare!

Advertisements

They’ve taken over the televisions, online streaming sites, social media, billboards, hoardings, newspapers, magazines and if we talk about the areas it has conquered, we will have to attach a different PDF! So, let’s not get into that for now.

Now, as the reach of these tiny clips is so huge, we need to ensure that it reaches the masses in an effective and creative way. Ads push a great impact on our minds. The topic, the way the scenario is tackled and executed plays a major role in the reach and the influence. To understand a few pointers, we will proceed with some scenarios that will come in handy to us.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]1. Feature Centric is not always cool

Let’s make an ad for a brand that manufactures helmets. Limit- 10 seconds. Rush, what are we going to do?

Agency A decided to go direct. A solid colour backdrop sat in the back and the helmet rotated on the screen. Arrows flickered towards the features like ‘hard built’, ‘tough’, ‘long lasting’, ‘affordable.’ 10 seconds got exhausted already.

Agency B decided to go with an obtuse angle method, instead of the straight or right. They portrayed a biker, riding his beast. He seemed to be carefree and full of fun. At 6 seconds, a line popped up, asking, “Wondering how he is so carefree? He is wearing our XYZ Brand Helmet. To Safety We Abide, Carefree Will Be Your Ride.”

Undoubtedly, Agency B’s ad got all over the screens while A’s ad struggled a lot. Why? The message was bombarded on the audience by agency A but B walked parallelly with the message and made the content more relatable. People felt close to the ad as their day to day life’s situation was screened. Win-win for agency B, isn’t it?

2. The power of Visual Communication

Wordplay is extremely important but what if we could induce different meanings in the same sentence, and then manipulate it using a visual medium? Sounds complicated? It is not! Here’s how you can do it.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2732″ alignment=”center”][vc_single_image image=”2733″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]I love the dish…(Not so much)
I love the dish! (excited)
I… love the dish? (doubtful)
I love the dish! (thankful)

We used the power of visual communication and you have the results in front of you. Visual aesthetics add a wave of feelings to the words. Giving direction to the phrases and words becomes easier with help of appropriate images. A good ad expresses its motto with visual help and word power.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]3. Colour Schemes are super important[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2735″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]A quick task for you. Head to any music video or a brand’s social media page. If you observe with a fishy eye, you will follow a link of colour schemes. In music videos, let’s take the song ‘Ilahi’ from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani for example, a vermillion shade sparks somewhere in every frame. It may be merging in the background with a neon red light, or it may be a camera strap with a red border, or his shirt itself. See? They’ve held red tighter to their script. Similarly, on social media pages, people opt for keeping a colour scheme. This is necessary because it establishes ‘brand colours.’ Exposing the audience to the brand colour multiple times makes them remember it and whenever they walk across the tones, they immediately associate it with your brand. So a good ad follows and sticks to its basic tones. Remember, we love red and white but don’t pin red next to pink 😛 Our next blog will guide you to the designing part as well, don’t worry!

There are many aspects that differentiate the good from the bad. A thin line also exists between the fact of doing it and over-doing it.
